Chased by the Waves

If you are reading this, may I tell you this is not really my first blog entry. After several days into blogging,I have utterly realized why I started in the first place.

Back in college, eight years ago,I was a member of the school’s publication which served as the voice of the studentry. Since then,I got fully engrossed with writing news, poems, reviews, and even stories. But to tell you frankly, the tasks and responsibilities I had were never stress-free.

I struggled most in expressing my contemplations due to vocabulary insufficiencies and insecurities. “This is not good enough, I am not good enough”, I could clearly hear myself saying.Deadlines we’re really toxic then, and I hate to say that I wasn’t able to submit the given tasks during cutoffs.

Expectedly, the editors chided me for too much dawdling, and that made me more lethargic and unresponsive. A couple of years later, I quitted.

I write not to impress but to express.

Now, I’m back and I want to restart that fragmented part of my past. I have this robust penchant for writing and I’m more certain to continue it.

Why blogging?

Obviously, using this platform, I can express my thoughts freely without any inhibitions. I have a voice here.

This means that I can spread out the things I like or don’t like, even those things that can help to change the world.

I am writing not to impress but to express. With love and optimism, may the good Lord guide me in this journey I am about to embark on.

  1. Your writing is making me think “why do I write!” It’s easy to say i write for noble ideals. But I also hope to break thru, be recognized, etc. However. I don’t see a contradiction between wanting to make a living and being spiritually correct, as it were.

      1. No I like questioning myself. That’s how I can move forward, get out of a rut. I guess my best answer would be that every word, every thing we do should be a constant discernment. Because you are a religious/spiritual person I believe you’ll get that! In my case I want a bit of recognition because I have the goal of helping to develop things the way they should go. This is either my personal dream or God’s will. Time will tell. It always does… πŸ™‚

      2. Your words made me think either.I would affirm with what you mentioned. One should continue learn and relearn, think and rethink to escape from the usual, monotonous life.Whatever your purpose is whether it is personal or spiritual,I honestly think lol that it’ll contribute much in the development of things, like changing the world and making it a better place for us😜

      3. I hope so. Sometimes I feel like I’m talking to deaf ears and there’s little point in carrying on. But then I’m back at it. Incidentally, after u mentioned Spanish roots I went to wiki. Of course… Interesting history. Sad sort of synchronicity re events in Spain. 🐈

      4. Yes I’ve always been curious … Actually I’d say more contemplation than thinking but I used to love that band… They’re dinosaurs but were once part of the British invasion, flower power etc…

  2. I am finding that expressing myself on a blog “freely without any inhibitions” to be virtually impossible. There is always the worry of what people think and the feeling that I’m always writing for an audience. Any tips you can share to get beyond this would be most welcome, Anabel. πŸ™‚

    1. It’s easier said than done, really.I think you have to determine first your purpose before anything else.As long as you are happy with what you are doing,i think lol,it doesn’t matter as much if people recognize your works or not.I believe you’re doing great, just continue it.πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

      1. Okay, I’ll hold back. I’ve published 371 posts since I started this blog on 01st April this year. How long should I give you to read them all before I lose it? πŸ˜€

  3. The more you read and the more you write, the better you get. I look back at some of my early posts and groan. Hopefully, I’ll say the same thing five years from now. The goal is continuous improvement.

I enjoyed what you had to say. It looks like others do to. Keep up the good work.

  4. I am so impressed with your large vocabulary as I assist his is your second language. Maybe it’s your third or fourth. Who knows. I have yet to see exactly where you are from. I’m reading the childhood piece which I liked very much, I should have recognized the place named but I did not and haven’t looked it up. I’m glad you are expressing yourself. You do so in a lovely way. I look forward to reading more.

  5. Insufficiency and insecurity happens with every language. I’ve only got 1 and a half languages under my belt and still find myself at a loss for words. Although I love to write, it is never about myself, so when I find someone who writes a slice of life moment of theirs, I feel humbled by their strength. Thank you for following and allowing me to see your style of writing. It is very beautifully written.

  7. Congratulations, Lebana, you are on your way! While it’s true that deadlines and stress are a part of the deal, I find that one has that kind of thing in any job. Personally, deadlines help me to get myself in gear because I value the credibility in getting the job done. I think that comes with time and experience. You’ll really build up your confidence, the more you write, and blogging is a great way to work on your writing without a lot of pressure. (I’m a middle-age wife/mom, so I’m speaking from experience.) BTW, if this is just your 1st blog, congratulations! I can only dream of getting 100 comments! How do you do it.

    1. I have to admit that I was less committed by that time.Haha.Well,everything changed as time passed.Thank you for your honest opinion.Hope I could get the same wisdom and experience when I reach that age.πŸ˜ƒI didn’t notice much that I’m already getting that number of comments. Thanks again for reminding me.Well, half of them are just my replies.πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒAsking how I do it,neither do I know.I have yet to figure out.I wish you more than a hundred comment,my friend. You deserve more.
      Best regards.-Anabel (Lebana)

BTW, I think Lebana is so cool. I would have never noticed the secret behind Lebana! That just gives me the idea of a good short story! Blessings,

  8. I’m so glad I clicked on your link! I have the same insecurities as you, especially when it comes to grammar and vocabulary. English is not my first language but it’s my favourite. I write poems too! At the moment, I post them on Instagram only. I’d love to exchange the links if you want.

Looking forward to reading more of you! πŸ™‚

  9. I AM IN LOVE! I love the way you write and it makes me feel so much more comfortable with my blog. When I first started I was really self conscious about my writing (I wasnt a great writer, still may not be). Finally I just fuck it and just went for it. Knowing you are here is somewhat of the same way makes me more confident in writing what ever comes out of the finger tips!
